W. Jakarta Administration to Hold Folk Market

The West Jakarta administration is scheduled to hold a folk market in some areas in order to lighten residents' burden, especially in Ramadan and ahead of Eid ul Fitr. By so, the people could get staple food with affordable price.

As planned, the folk market will be held on Jalan Meruya Selatan, precisely in the football field near the Mercu Buana University, which falls on July 12-13, 2014. As many as 1,300 coupons will be distributed to residents living in Meruya Selatan, Meruya Utara, and Joglo Urban Villages.

Head of West Jakarta Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Trade (KUMKMP) Sub-Department disclosed such activity aims to help residents get quality staple food with cheap rice. "We hold in three sub-districts because there are many citizens who earn their living in the informal sector, such as labor and ornamental plant farmers," he expressed, Friday (7/11).

Cheap Market in Central Jakarta to Sell Staples Half Price

His sub-department plans to cooperate private companies engaged in sector of the modern market and 30 small and medium-sized businesses (UKM) in order to smoothen its implementation.

 

He explained residents would get coupon to pay food package worth Rp 40 thousand. For those who do not get the coupon, can get it from the UKM.

West Jakarta Economic Assistant, Jupan Royter added that the similar activity will also be held on July 17 in the courtyard of West Jakarta Mayor office. "Based on our monitoring, the staple food price in some markets is increasing significantly. That's why we hold the activity to help people," he uttered.
